What is a Mobile Secure Key?

The Mobile Secure Key is a safe and convenient way to generate security codes on the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app, so you can log on and approve transactions without needing your physical Security Device. Say goodbye to forgetting to take your Security Device out or worrying about its battery life!

To use your Mobile Secure Key, all you need to do is update your HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app to the latest version available, and you're good to go. Easy peasy!

Why you should choose the Mobile Secure Key for your banking needs

Safe and secure:
With your Mobile Secure Key available on your smartphone, access to your accounts and banking transactions is limited only to you, protected by the added security of biometric authentication or your 6-digit PIN.

What options do I have to log on to online banking?

There are 2 options currently available for you to access your accounts and verify your transactions.

Important! Your physical Security Device (if you have one) will be deactivated immediately once you activate your Mobile Secure Key.

Available on the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app.

The Mobile Secure Key replaces older physical Security Devices, offering enhanced security features like biometric authentication and added convenience for your banking needs.

Security Device

A physical Security Device issued to account holders.

This is in the process of being phased out and is no longer being issued for new account openings.

How to Activate Mobile Secure Key on HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking App

Make sure you've got the most up-to-date version of the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app.

If you've got a physical Security Device then it will be deactivated immediately after you activate your Mobile Secure Key (MSK). You can return your physical Security Device to any HSBC branches or dispose of it yourself.

Check that the date and time of your device is set to be automatically retrieved from your mobile network provider. This avoids any errors when you're generating security codes with your MSK. You can check this in your mobile's date and time settings.

Starting from 22 August 2023, there's a 12-hour cooling-off period for Mobile Secure Key set-up.

Step 1: Download the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Step 2: Set up your account and verify your identity.

Step 3: Create a 6-digit PIN

You'll then receive an SMS to confirm your PIN has been set. This will also activate your Mobile Secure Key. You won't be able to log on to your online banking or mobile banking account until you've created your PIN.

Step 4: Call us or visit your nearest branch to complete your customer verification and online banking registration.

You'll need to do this within 48 hours of receiving the registration confirmation SMS. You will have full access to your account once you've completed customer verification and the cooling-off period finishes.

Generating security codes on your Mobile Secure Key

You'll need to generate a re-authenticate code using your Mobile Secure Key when you make any of the following transactions via HSBC Malaysia Online Banking:

Payment or transfer exceeding RM10,000 between your own HSBC accounts
Payment or transfer to any saved payee for any amount

We'll need your biometric or 6-digit PIN authentication for any of the following transactions via the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app:

Payment or transfer exceeding RM10,000 between your own HSBC accounts
Payment or transfer to a saved payee for any amount

There's a 12-hour cooling-off period for your Mobile Secure Key set-up.

Step 1: Open the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app (but don't log on). Select 'Generate Security Code' at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: Your security code will be generated. Enter the code where it's requested on HSBC online banking.

Step 2: To proceed, you are required to generate a ‘log on code’ using Mobile Secure Key.

Step 3: Open the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app (but don't log on). Select 'Generate Security Code' at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: Select the 'Log on code'.

Step 5: Enter your 6-digit PIN or biometric authentication (if you've enabled it) to generate a security code.

Step 6: Your security code will be generated.

Step 7: Enter the code where it's requested on HSBC online banking.

Important: please ensure the date and time on your mobile device is set automatically so that Mobile Secure Key can generate an accurate code.

Step 1: Log on to your HSBC Malaysia Online Banking account and select ‘Pay and Transfer’ option.

Step 2: Select the account you would want to transfer from (If you have more than 1 HSBC account) and the payee type to begin a new payment transaction.

Step 3: Fill in the details of the payees and fund transfer amount (Example shown in the screenshot).

Step 4: To proceed, you are required to enter a security code for additional security.

Step 5: Open the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app (but don't log on). Select 'Generate Security Code' at the bottom of the screen.

Step 6: Select the ‘Transaction Verification Code’.

Step 7: Enter the last 4 digit of the payee's account number followed by transfer amount including cent and select authorise. Refer back to step 3, it shows the account number of the payee is 3456789098 and the transfer amount is RM10.25. In this case, the transaction verification number is 90981025.

Step 8: Enter your 6-digit PIN or biometric authentication (if you've enabled it) to generate a security code.

Step 9: Your security code will be generated. Enter the code where it's requested on HSBC online banking.

Step 1: Log on to your HSBC Malaysia Online Banking account and select ‘Change Internet Banking Limit’.

Step 2: Select and update on the daily limit as you wanted.

Step 3: To proceed, you are required to enter a security code for additional security.

Step 4: Open the HSBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app (but don't log on). Select 'Generate Security Code' at the bottom of the screen.

Step 5: Select the ‘Re-authentication code’.

Step 6: Enter your 6-digit PIN or biometric authentication (if you've enabled it) to generate a security code.

Step 7: Your security code will be generated. Enter the code where it's requested on HSBC online banking.

Step 8: Enter the code where it's requested on HSBC online banking.
